This Monday we take time honor Martin Luther King Jr., a prominent leader in the American civil rights movement who left an indelible mark on history with his tireless efforts for equality and justice. One of the many ways one can honor him is by engaging in community service, a practice he fervently believed in as a means to create positive change.

At JeffreyM we have an incredible spirit of giving and generosity within our company. Many of our employees already give back in their own ways and we feel proud that so many have such a strong commitment to supporting local communities.

Last month we partnered with Merit America, a national nonprofit organization that builds a pathway for workers in low-wage roles to move into the middle class and start careers in IT Support, Java Development, Data Analytics and UX Design. Our staff team and people leaders volunteered to conduct mock interviews. By participating in Merit America’s mock interviews we solidified our dedication to fostering workforce inclusivity refining our employee’s leadership acumen. We look forward to more opportunities with this organization in the future.

During the recent holiday season, we also collaborated with The Wishing Well Foundation to participate in their annual toy drive for foster youth, specifically those in the process of transitioning into foster care within Pierce County, Washington. The Wishing Well Foundation is dedicated to the well-being of abused and neglected youth, providing essentials and experiences that are often out of reach for many foster children. By supporting them, we’re not only aiding these kids but also contributing to the retention of quality foster homes in Pierce County.

Together as a team and in the spirit of MLK, we will continue our tradition of giving back and spreading joy among those who need it most. Here’s how you can draw inspiration from MLK to understand the power of community service and get involved:

  1. MLK Jr. often spoke about the importance of service to others. His famous quote, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?'” serves as a timeless reminder of our collective responsibility to contribute to the well-being of our communities.
  2. MLK Jr. believed that through service, we could build a more just and inclusive society. Engaging in community service is a powerful way to embody MLK Jr.’s teachings. It fosters a sense of unity, compassion, and empathy, breaking down barriers and promoting understanding among diverse groups.
  1. MLK Jr. was a champion for social justice, advocating for the rights of marginalized communities. Today, we can follow in his footsteps by actively addressing issues of inequality, poverty, and discrimination through our service initiatives. By doing so, you can contribute to the ongoing fight for justice and equality.
  2. MLK Jr. envisioned a world where everyone had the opportunity to thrive. Community service allows us to make a tangible impact on the lives of those in need. Whether it’s volunteering at local shelters, organizing food drives, or participating in educational programs, our collective efforts can create lasting change in our communities.

As we reflect on the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr., let us not only remember his words but also embody his spirit through meaningful action.
