Earth Month at JeffreyM Consulting

Earth Day is celebrated on April 22^nd of each year, a day where a wide range of environmentally focused events occur around the entire world. It is a day to celebrate, to raise awareness, to volunteer our time and resources, and to educate ourselves on environmental issues. We can use this day to think about how our daily actions impact the environment, and we can then reflect on new ways we can reduce our carbon imprint. While it would be ideal if we could live every day as if it was Earth Day, April 22^nd serves as a friendly reminder each year to respect the Earth, and to realize our individual impact and the potential we each have to make a difference.

Earth Day hits especially close to home at JeffreyM Consulting, as we have committed to reducing our emissions by 55% by 2030 in partnership with Microsoft’s bold goal of becoming carbon negative by 2030. We are doing a ton of work internally to meet this goal. Our Climate Change: Environment & Sustainable Procurement CSR Sub-Committee is tasked with creating opportunities and processes to ensure we reach that goal – from internal tracking, to awareness campaigns, to policies and procedures, to submitting emissions disclosures.

Here at JeffreyM we are always looking for ways to lighten our carbon footprint, ensuring we make continual progress towards our goal. We implemented internal processes to ensure our laptops are utilized for their entire 3-year lifecycle, where they are then donated to a service-disable veteran owned IT company, or responsibly recycled at the end of their life. We ask staff members to bring in the air packets/bubble wrap they receive at home from online purchases, resulting in zero packing material purchases since July 2021. Our print policy allowing printing only when necessary has resulted in zero purchases of computer paper since May 2019. For every shipment, we select UPS Carbon Neutral shipping. By selecting this option, we pay a nominal fee to support projects that offset the emissions of the shipment’s transport. These are only a few of examples of the actions we are taking, but prove that even the smallest change can still result in a large impact.

The official theme of Earth Day 2023 is Invest in Our Planet, and at JeffreyM we plan on doing just that. In this spirit, and in alignment with our airy hope that every day could be Earth Day, we are dedicating April 24^th – May 24^th as our second annual Earth Month. Earth Month will be celebrated with a Social Media Campaign. This campaign will not only align to our goals of creating more employee awareness/involvement opportunities, it also aligns to the priorities our employees indicated in our CSR survey that would create value for them, listed here:

• Decreasing environmental footprint
• Employee volunteer opportunities
• Recycling, waste management, and waste reduction
• Rewards for pro-environmental behavior
• At home resources for reducing environmental impact

We encourage ouremployees to celebrate with us, as we raise awareness about our daily impacts on the environment in both our personal and professional lives, and how we can make positive changes to those impacts – resulting in reductions to JeffreyM emissions. To reach our goal of reducing our emissions by 55% by 2030, we need the participation of our employees.
