THE JEFFREYM TEAM
As a company who employs top-tier talent to work with tech titans like Microsoft and Facebook, we have an intentional focus on championing female leaders in the tech space. As we celebrate #WomensHistoryMonth, we’ll be highlighting several of our employees as part of our ‘Women in Tech’ feature. This week the #JeffreyM Team is enthused to spotlight Veronica Burgos, Social Media Marketing Manager, as she shares her perspectives and experiences:
Who are some of your “sheroes”?
My mother and grandmother. In their own ways they’ve mastered the art of being soft and strong, and I look up to that.
How long have you worked in the tech industry and what drew you to the field?
It’s been a little over a year now. I like that it’s a dynamic space, you are always learning something new and it’s often alongside some incredibly talented people.
Most exciting project you’ve worked on?
The Ability Summit – it’s a yearly event that Microsoft puts together for people with disabilities, allies, and accessibility professionals. It’s exciting to see it come together and work with the team that makes it all happen.
Your perspective on the challenges and opportunities women face in the tech industry?
The challenge is that technology is still a male dominated field, and that can be intimidating at times. But it’s a space filled with opportunities, and there are so many ways to work in tech – it’s very interdisciplinary and not just about programming. It’s also easy to connect with and learn from others and support each other along the way.
Are you involved/passionate about any non-profits?
Right now I’m volunteering through my master’s program as a consultant to help nonprofits and small businesses during the COVID19 pandemic. Before, I was involved with Ethnic Heritage Council, a nonprofit that focuses on preserving ethnic heritage to advance mutual understanding – I learned a lot about local organizations that support different ethnic groups during my time with them.
