Women’s History Month Reflections

Margo Newman

In celebration of Women’s History Month throughout the month of March, we at JeffreyM Consulting are taking time to support women by highlighting and reflecting on the contributions of women throughout history and modern day. With 60%+ of the JeffreyM Consulting employee base self-identifying their gender as female, and with 90%+ of our leadership self-identifying their gender as female, I feel the strength and resiliency of the representation and feel excited to celebrate all of my fellow women.

This year, there is an overarching theme of Women’s History Month of Providing Healing and Promoting Hope. Millions of women have worn many hats over the last couple of years with the ongoing pandemic and ceaseless work of being caregivers, frontline workers, providers, sounding boards, mothers, spouses, etc. We have seen the toll it has taken on so many of us – big and small, and yet we have seen the strength. Women strengthen our communities, homes, and workplaces, providing healing, hope, and empathy to all those around them. But we also need to take care of ourselves.

While women have made great progress over the years, there are still obstacles we face because of these many hats – including mothers maintaining responsibility for a majority of the household and childcare responsibilities, among a long list of workplace stigmas and barriers. As a woman leader myself, I feel it is important that we support other women leading the way and break down barriers for each other and the generation to come. It seems appropriate that we reflect during this time and take action to provide healing and hope to continue progress.

As JeffreyM continues to focus on how we take action moving forward for a better future, we recognize the importance of having intentional focus on championing women leaders. Below is a short list of how you can join us now in making an impact and amplifying women’s voices.

Take Action. Contribute, volunteer, mentor, hire, highlight, recognize and provide more flexibility – the list can go on and on. Think about what action you can take to support women – are you able to donate to or volunteer at a woman centered non-profit? Are you a hiring manager that can influence the recruiting and selection processes? Big or small, any action will create impact.

Support Women-Owned Businesses. We choose every day where to spend our money and supporting women-owned businesses is an easy way to make an impact. Below are some of my personal favorite women-owned businesses to get you started.

Stay Informed. There are numerous entertainment and media outlets where you can support women authors, directors, and entertainers, all while learning and expanding your own understanding and viewpoints. Here are a few of my suggestions to get you started:

  • Streaming | Inventing Anna, The Power of the Dog, Encanto, Battle of the Sexes
  • Podcasts | Now and Then, Women & Money, Women at Work, 9 to 5ish with theSkimm
  • Books | She Persisted, The Maid, The Grace Year, Battle Hymn of The Tiger Mother

Recognize. Lift one another up and don’t forget about yourself. Send a thank you note, quote or uplifting message to a woman in your life to remind them that they are not alone and that their contributions are noticed. In addition, write yourself a love note. Give yourself some love and attention and recognize all that you have accomplished.

Tag and give a shout-out to one woman that you know provides that healing and hopefulness. If you get tagged – join in! If you don’t want to share here, that’s ok – write them a quick personal note!

Be sure you are following JeffreyM on Instagram throughout the month as we continue to share and amplify women’s achievements and voices. Also, check out last year’s Women’s History Month Reflections for additional reading!
